On May 16th, “Feng Tang Explains the Zizhi Tongjian” officially launches. Today marks the official start of the 48-hour countdown, with the new course set to meet everyone the day after tomorrow. Yesterday, we discussed why we should read the Zizhi Tongjian. Today, let’s talk about why you should follow me in reading this monumental work and what qualifies Feng Tang to explain the Zizhi Tongjian. As usual, I will highlight three key points.

Firstly, Feng Tang is lesser known as a genuine expert in strategic management. Although my reputation for writing erotic novels far outweighs that of being a career manager, drawing on my professional managerial experience, I believe I do not fall short compared to many others. This experience is rather unique; while over two decades have passed in the blink of an eye, reflecting on these years reveals a wealth of managerial experience that is not easily acquired. Perhaps it sounds cliché, but to prove my qualification to discuss the Zizhi Tongjian, I will briefly outline my background:

  1. I studied medicine for eight years, giving me insight into human nature.
  2. Over two decades of novel writing, including seven full-length works, have given me an understanding of human character.
  3. Two years of MBA study and nearly ten years as a McKinsey consultant, eventually becoming a partner there, followed by five years at China Resources (first as General Manager of Strategy for the entire group and then as founding CEO of China Resources Healthcare), and another five years as Managing Director at CITIC Capital focusing on investments. Moreover, since around 2018, I have embarked on creating a ‘management science’, publishing books such as “Achieving Success” and “Feng Tang’s Methodology for Achieving Success”, with “Feng Tang Talks Books” soon to be released.

In summary, whether it’s understanding people and human nature, management theory and practice, company operations, headquarters operations, entrepreneurship, or investment, I have practical experience. “What is learned from books seems shallow; true knowledge comes from personal experience.” With hands-on experience, it’s different from merely theoretical or hearsay knowledge. I believe I am qualified to discuss the Zizhi Tongjian, especially from a management perspective. I hope to use this classic as an effective tool for refining our management skills, making it a core component of “Feng Tang’s Achievement Science”.

Secondly, Feng Tang has a deep love for history. Since the age of 14, I’ve been reading the Records of the Grand Historian, and since 17, I’ve delved into the Zizhi Tongjian. Despite the busy schedule after getting my MBA and joining McKinsey—often working 80, 90, sometimes even 100 hours a week—a copy of the Twenty-Four Histories or the Zizhi Tongjian was always beside my pillow.

I have read the Zizhi Tongjian from cover to cover twice, and this series will be my third complete read-through. While legends say some great figures have read it 17 times in their lifetime, realistically, I doubt it. According to those who managed his library, he read it three times, which seems more credible. If you ask 100 acquaintances, if even 2 or 3 have read the Zizhi Tongjian from start to finish, you can consider your social circle high-quality. The Zizhi Tongjian is a challenging book to read, yet I particularly enjoy it.

Lastly, Feng Tang has reached a certain age. If I were only 20 or 30, I would not feel qualified to discuss the Zizhi Tongjian. But now, at 50, “knowing one’s destiny at fifty,” I have experienced extensive reading and traveling. Although “the flaw of man lies in loving to teach,” at 50, knowing my place in the universe, I wish to share my insights, experiences, and painful realizations through words, audio, and video, leaving something meaningful behind.

In conclusion, I hope that over the next year, two years, three years, or even five to ten years, we can carefully read through the Zizhi Tongjian together, accomplishing another significant feat.
